The Amiga AGA chipset was introduced in the CD32, A1200 and A4000 models by Commodore in 1992.

While OCS had a maximum 6 bitplane depth allowing 64 colours, AGA was an incremental update to OCS and allowed 8 bitplanes which brought 256 (2^8) indexed colours to the screen and into Amiga games. The 8 bitplanes could also be used to display still images with 262144 colours using Hold and Modify mode.

The AGA chipset was the last chipset by Commodore
